gemlike flame- how did you get into UC Berkeley and not UCLA? I've heard that UC Berkeley is harder to get into, but I guess I'm wrong. Would you mind sharing your stats or just your GPA at least. Please?

  1. Depends where you live and what degree/courses/sports you are interested in. I believe UCLA is more difficult to get in though.

  2. what?!!! why would anyone choose UCLA over Berkeley?

  3. ENOUGH! It depends on what you want to major in, however if your not a student attending, then Berkley out ranks UCLA, however UCLA also beats out Berkley in some things as well, just like Berkley beats out UCLA in some things.

  4. It depends on your major.  Berkeley is known for liberal arts, UCLA is better known for sciences and math.  A Berkeley grad, it has been said, has a guaranteed interview.  Berkeley is within the top 5-6 schools in the country.  I will be going to Berkeley in spring '09 as a transfer student for English, but incidentally, I didn't get accepted to UCLA although Berkeley is the better school while it is supposedly more difficult to get into.

...The only thing I can say is that I do bring diversity to UCBerkeley, I am originally from Michigan where I attended school at Eastern Michigan U. and I am not the traditional student, although I am white.  The average transfer GPA to UCBerkeley is 3.8.  Mine is about a 3.72...I did tell them it was 3.8 but I was unable to calculate it myself at the time, I do have many different transcripts from more than a few colleges as I also attended school in California.  UCBerkeley must be placing a higher value on diversity in life experiences and creative talents more than UCLA.  I live in Reseda, which is in the Valley...but even if I had gotten into UCLA, Berkeley was my top choice and ideal school as well as preferable location since I love San Francisco so I am elated.  The only bad thing about my different experiences is that I have 110 credits already.  In terms of being non-traditional, I was in the Army...I did very well at Eastern in Michigan...I have a lot of photography skills...nothing outstanding, I never wrote a book, but as they say, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with b.s.  Just something to keep in mind when applying, to a reasonable extent as long as you are also being honest, of course.  Good luck...  :-)
