  1. I'm a someshat of a techie so I have both. But if I were to chose, I'd chose Windows.

The variaty of programs is much greater and not to  mention the ease of use.

    Linux is good for programming.

  2. I use both but Linux as primary. If your primary use is playing games then go for windows otherwise Linux is the best. It is true that Linux is not that much user friendly as windows is but in recent years linux have improved alot in terms of ease of use for home users. It is operating system of future and I would suggest you to use both side by side. You can have both of them on your hard drive at a time.

FYI, my favorite linux distributions are Ubuntu, Open SUSE and Mandriva. Try them you will have a wonderful experience.

  3. From the tech point of view - Linux hands down

For back end systems - File servers, mail servers, databases - Linux

For Limited business desktops or school desktops - Linux

For Unlimited desktops such as Engineering workstations - Windows

    For Home Users - Windows

Linux has many strong points - I use Linux for my file server and print server. But I use Windows as my main OS because Windows has greater flexibility due to a far larger library of applications.  There are applications like Quicken, AutoCad, PhotoShop and games that do not have Linux versions and these are programs that people cannot do without. They do not want a clone, they need the real product.  Until the software vendors start porting their products to Linux, Windows has the edge for the average user.

(And you can bet that MS works VERY hard to make it unattractive to port those products to Linux)

  4. Windows.

Because I make a living supporting it. A GOOD living.
