...mean, isn't it the differences in opinions which keep us from being monotonous or clone-like? Wouldn't the world be very boring if we all thought alike? Wouldn't inventions not have existed and technology not have

developed had all individuals been corralled into the same way of thinking? Just think of how simple the world would be if everyone thought the exact same..it would be torture; an endless h**l.

Besides, thumb downs are not designed for that purpose; you're only suppose to use thumb downs for rude, inappropriate, offensive (attacking gender, sexual orientation, race, etc.,), abusive or otherwise

disrespectful comments.

  1. You must understand that there are those who are miserable, spineless and very, truly unhappy people who do nothing but try to suck people into their whirlwind of doom.  They  have no real life, they probably spend about 90% of their time online and 89% of that time trying to attack and make others as wretched as they are.  They need to find more constructive things to do with their lives than judge others opinons and try to learn and share in this forum as others do.

    Peace & Love  :)

  2. No, there is no benefit to doing that.

  3. You're partly correct but not 100%. On opinion questions you're 100% right. However many questions require directions or instructions rather than opinions. Many answers are just lame and therefore the mighty thumbs down is appropriate,

  4. yeah they even took out the thumbs down button on the question because to many cry babies whined about it

  5. Its dumb! If your saying you favorite color is green some people give you a thumbs down! Its you opinion! I totally agree with you and everything you said! I only thumbs down people whne they say rude things or give totally wrong info!

  6. ive been getting so many thumbs down, and sometimes its when I dont even say anything, like when I say "edit" on an avatar game. some people really need lives beyond yahoo answers.

  7. I know right? It's so stupid.

People don't thumbs up and thumbs down to rate the answer, they thumbs up/thumbs down when the person's opinion is the same as theirs.

    Notice how in questions like

"Are you Democrat or Republican?" the answers still manage to get thumbs up and thumbs downs. They shouldn't because people are just stating what they are.

  8. Unfortunately we have a lot of thumbs down happy people on here that do it when someone has a different opinion.  We also have trolls that do the same thing just for kicks as well trying I guess to be funny.  I never givbe a thumbs down unless it's something obscene or very obnoxious and then I may very well report it.

  9. i would totally thumbs up this question if i could

  10. Just like the reporting of people or their questions, it's a form of censorship; trying to silence what you do not agree with.  I don't see anything wrong with giving someone a thumbs down.  Nor do I believe it to be strictly used for offensive or sexually, etc., material.  Why can I NOT agree and express my non-agreement with a thumbs down?

I know that a lot of my contacts will not agree with me, but as stated above:  I do not believe in censorship....period.

  11. yes indeed...an educated inquiry

    a star for you sir...

we could use more like you on Y/A!

  12. i rarely give a thumbs down.  when i do it's for 2 reasons.

1: the person was extremely rude to the questioner.

    2. the asker was asking for an answer to something and i knew for a fact the answer given was wrong.

  13. Guess they're just all thumbs!
