POSCO to become final official sponsor of the IAAF World Championships, Daegu 2011
It was certainly a happy moment for the IAAF when it was announced that POSCO would like to be a sponsor of the much awaited 2011 IAAF World Championships event. On the conclusion of the international sponsorship package, POSCO, which is a leading operator
of the steel industry, signed an MOU with the IAAF authorities.
After signing the MOU, POSCO has accepted to be the latest sponsor of the Daegu event, which is one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
POSCO is among the most competitive steel companies of South Korea. Founded about 43-years ago, the company was fully privatised back in 2000 and since then, it has marked an impressive expansion in the international business arena, which has culminated
in acquiring plants in major markets in East Asian countries including China and India. With a turnover of no less than 32.6 trillion Korean Won and for having employed over 16,000 workers, POSCO appears to be one of the leading steel industries of the country.
Commenting upon this major development, Lamine Diack, president of the IAAF said it was excellent news to have a sponsor like POSCO, as this had significantly fulfilled the objective of having eight sponsors in 2011. The president added, “The success of
the IAAF World Championships and our other competitions and programmes is only possible with the enthusiastic support of our partners, and the IAAF can now boast a global family of blue chip commercial allies.”
Expressing his delight over the major stride, Jongtae Choi, president of POSCO said, “This competition’s principles of dreams, passion, and challenge are similar to POSCO’s corporate culture of creative challenge. By sponsoring this championship, POSCO will
also do its best to make many challenges and dreams come true.”
Besides POSCO, other sponsors of the event are comprised of TDK, VTB, Adidas, Toyota, Samsung, Sinopec and Seiko.
The IAAF World Championships 2011 will invite over 2000 athletes from 200 countries and territories of the world. This marks the Daegu championships 2011 as the biggest sporting event of the year.
