3x + 4y = 7

Well, I already know the answer but I don't know how you get it

- If you could just give me a brief explanation if anybody knows how to do this

  1. I'm sorry, but how is that pre calculus? i had that equation last year in algebra 1

  2. So you know that slope intercept for is y=mx+b (or y=ax+b)

    Thus, you simply isolate y:

    3x + 4y = 7

    7-3x=4y

    (7/4)-(3/4)x=y

    Making it: y=-3/4x+7/4

    Hope that cleared it up for you!

  3. slope intersept form is y=m(x)+b.

    the m(x) is the slope of the equation.

    b is your y-intersept (where the line meets the vertical y axis)

    so, you want to get y by its self on one side of the = sign.

    to do that you would subtract 3x from both sides, to get 4y = -3x + 7

    then you would divide by 4 on each side, to get 4y = -3x + 7

                                                                         /4      /4    /4

    now since your slope is rise over run, a fraction is good. don't try to turn it into a decimal.

    so you get y = -3/4 + 1 and 3/4.

    any other qu.s e-mail me!

  4. 3x + 4y = 7

    subtract -3x from both sides

    4y= -3x +7

    div by 4 both sides

    y = -3x/4 +7/4

  5. You move 3x to the other side first,

    4y = -3x + 7

    Divide both sides by 4,

    y = -(3/4)x + (7/4)

  6. Slope intercept form has the basic form of y=mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept (the point on the y axis that the line crosses). To get to slope intercept form, you must solve the equation for y. First, subtract 3x from both sides so you have 4y = -3x + 7. Next, divide by 4 to get y by itself. This gives you y= -3/4 x + 7/4. This means that the slope is -(3/4) and the y-intercept is (7/4).

  7. Slope-intercept form means "get the equation to look like y=mx+b"

    You want to get y all alone on the left side. Start by subtracting 3x from both sides:

    4y=-3x+7

    Now divide each term by 4 to get y all alone.

    y=(-3/4)x+(7/4)
