Question:

PRICELINE.COM question?

I am trying to use priceline.com to name my price on a hotel room. So far I'm not having any luck. Every offer I made has been rejected even though one of them was (accidentally) higher than what the normal booking rate is. The night I'm looking for is March 1st. Am I just trying too soon? Would it be better if I waited until a couple days before hand to book it? I need some advice on this please.

  1. Try hotwire.com. You can't name your own price but you can get a pretty good rate depending on availablity. The month of March is heavy travel for Spring Break so for certain destinations, it's slim pickins'.

Also try the hotel.com website or a hotel's direct website. Sometimes they offer special or lowest available rates on their own site.

  2. Something appears wrong.  What might be happening is that although there are rooms available, priceline.com has no more rooms available for that evening.  Looking at the calendar, March 1st is a Saturday night and the hotel might not have given any rooms to priceline.com.

A couple of suggestions - go to the hotel site directly and see if you can find a room (you don't need to book it, just see if there is room available for the night.   While at the site, try differnet types of rates, "look at cheapest available, AARP rates, AAA rates, etc. - it will give you a better idea of the going rates.

Also, the more that I think, since it is a Saturday night, you might be too early to find that the hotel is willing to give bargain rates for that evening.....it depends where the hotel is located and the possible demand.

    hope this helps - M

  3. You can try waiting but if the hotel/motel is already booked up they won't lower their rates.
