PRO's and Cons for colored prescription contacts?

I have black colored eyes and want green contacts. I have the prescription for them and my doctor said I could either go with Freshlooks or ACUVUE®2 COLOURS® . I got some trail Acuvue Colours today and I could hardly tell I was wearing the green ones. Any advice? What are the PRO's and Con's of wearing colored contacts?

  1. In low light you may be able to see the color, but its not like you will see green, it may look a little hazy. The reason is because when you go into a dark room your pupil dilates (gets bigger) and the clear center of the contact stays the same size. They can't make the clear center bigger because if you went into a bright room, you pupil wil constrict (get smaller) and then your eye color will show too much, they'd look really fake, and no one would buy them!

The Pro's of colored contact- well that's a personal one, will they give you more confidence?

The Cons- they are not as comfortable as clear, not as healthy, the amount of oxygen transmission through the lens to your cornea isn't as high as the clear contacts so it's easier to damage your cornea if you over wear them or don't clean them. If you decide on colors, make sure you don't wear them 14 hours a day and clean them properly.

  2. The thing about colored contacts is if they aren't good quality contacts then they look very obvious on the person that is wearing them. Other than that there's nothing wrong with wearing colored contacts.
