  1. No question, a PS3...  Future Proof with free firmware updates that now offer upscaling on std DVD's and now has HD-DTS Audio, if you have a HT theatre system that uses it.  Plus a first rate gaming system.   The PS3 Blu Ray is highly regarded and std Blu Ray players are just starting to catch up.

  2. As of right now PS3 is the only Blu-Ray player that can use all the features of a 2.0 Blu-Ray disk.

The 2.0 profile brings picture-in-picture and online functionality to Blu-ray discs; these movies will have "BD-Live" stickers on the case so you know certain features will require 2.0-compliant players.

  3. from a guy that has a PS3 and bought a Blu-Ray player for my uncle.. i say go with the PS3.. load times are way faster and you more functionality from the PS3 than a standalone BD player...

  4. I recommend EVERYONE to get a PS3 as a blu-ray player. For one...it is currently THE ONLY 2.0 profile Blu-ray player on the market that can take advantage of all features on Blu-ray Disc. Also, the machine is essentially future proof, and you can constantly update it through an internet connection.  It now has the ability to decode ALL high definition Audio as well, including Dobly TrueHD, DTS-HD MAster Audio and PCM tracks. Not to mention it's the cheapest out there and concidering it has a built in gaming machine/media server...for $399, this thing is a steal! Another nice advantage of the ps3, is that since it's a gaming machine, it has a WHOLE BOAT LOAD of memory, that helps with Blu-rays otherwise, lengthy load times. :) You just can't go wrong with it.
