PS3 - DVR functionality?

Question

Can anyone please tell me if the PS3 has the ability to work as a DVR and if so how does it compare to a pure DVR?

No tv tuner, so I doubt it.

If this piece of hardware had a tv tuner and a slightly larger hard drive then it would be ideally placed to unify the complex, disjointed and muddled av market... it could be killer... just a tiny step to make, watch out for it sooner or later, I reckon.

the TV tuner for the PS3 hasn't been released yet so i can't say but i won't get it cause my PS3 uses more energy then my topfield PVR and would make it more expensive to run just to record TV
