Question:

PS3 Help... Several Questions?

by  |  earlier

I have always wanted a Wii... But now that Ir eally think about it, I can still play my Gamecube and get some really great experiences. Now the system that I am going after is the PS3.

I have a few questions regarding it, so I will know if it is worth it or not.

First, is there any model that has backward compatibility? If so, which models are they, and are they still in production.

Second, what are the top ten games out for it, or that are going to be out for it soon. Don't list a game if it is not out before this Christmas, because that's when I plan to get it.

Third, what kind of things can you buy from the online store? Can you buy old PS1 games? Is there a list of these games anywhere?

And lastly, is the Playstation Home program-thing going to be free, or available for download? Or is it already?

Thank you for answering my questions... I hope it wasn't too much trouble:D

  1. all there is the 40 and 80GB and their both backwards compatible.

Cod4, MGS4, Resistance, guitar hero 3, oblivion, soul calibur 4,

Yes you can buy ps1 games

Home is free, no not ready

  2. 1. The only model you can still buy today with backwards compatibility is the Metal Gear Solid 4 80gb PS3. It's not got the same hardware that the older (and discontinued) 20gb and 60gb models have, but uses software instead so not every game may work perfectly. However you can only buy this if you're in America, Europe and Australia only got backwards compatibility on the now discontinued 60gb model.

    2. If you buy the MGS4 80gb bundle, then you've got the best PS3 exclusive game. If you've not played any Metal Gear Solid game before, then I'd suggest buying the Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection. This includes MGS1, 2, and 3.

    3. You can buy PS1 games online, and use them on your PSP as well (if you have one), along with buying game addons, movies, television series, download demos, wallpapers and things like that. The store can be accessed online.

    4. Home will be free, but not available yet but later in the year. Right now it's being beta tested to people who are invited.

    3. you can find all the classic games available on the official psn store. i must worn you that there aren't as many as you would hope. but finding them on ebay wouldn't be that hard. you can also buy movies, tv shows, add ons, etc. free stuff includes demo's, wallpapers, etc.

    4. it will be available for download later this year of they don't push it back again. i'm sorry but i don't know if it will be free or not.

it wasn't too much trouble. actually its a relief from the constant bombardment of xbox 360 vs ps3 questions

  5. 1). 20GB, 60GB and 80GB models have backwards compatibility. 80GB is still on sale, 20GB and 60GB aren't manufactured for a long time. BTW, don't get mixed up, there is new 80GB coming out - it won't support PS2 games;

2). MGS4, GTA IV, Ratchet and Clank: TOD, Virtua Fighter 5, Soul Calibur 4, COD 4, Motorstorm, Resistance: FOM, Warhawk, Oblivion

3). There are old PS1 games for sale, plus much more.

4). Home is going to be free. Now it's in a closed testing, open beta will be available this Fall, final version will be out in the beginning of 2009.

  6. 1- Yes. The 20gb, 60gb (both discontinued), and bundle 80gb(about to be discontinued) are compatible with both ps1 and ps2 games. The 40gb and 80gb core are only compatible with ps1 games.

2- MGS4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, COD4, Assassins Creed, Warhawk, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Naruto Ninja Storm, Heavenly Sword, and God Of War 3.

3- Old Ps1 games, Small Ps3 games, Add on content like new characters and new maps, demos, and you can now buy or rent movies and tv shows!

4- It is free, and will be available to download somewhere around October.

    Hope I was of help:)

  7. The only backwards compatible unit is the original 60gb, no longer available in stores, but are available on ebay.

Call of Duty 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Race Driver GRID, Resistance 2 (coming soon), Haze, Top Spin 3, Buzz! Quiz TV...

Yes you can buy old ps1 games, like Wipeout, as well as old classics like Mortal Kombat and Lemmings.

Home is still a while off, and it will be "free" to an extent. It will cost you to actually put things in your home, and throphy's and in game content that you unlock will give you items for free also.

    good luck.

  8. 1. Models that have Backwards Compatibility - 20GB (Discontinued) 60GB (Discontinued) 80GB (About to be Discontinued.) All of these have the ability to play PSOne, and most PS2 games. If you are only going to get at Christmas, there will be only the CORE 80GB available, that would only work with PSOne games.

2.MGS4, COD4, GTA4, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, LBP (October) Gran Turismo, Prince of Persia (7 at least!)

    3. From the store, you can buy Classic PSOne titles (only list i know of is in the store itself), Game add ons. There are also upcoming game demos, Themes, wallpapers (all free!) In the US, you can rent and download movies also.

    4. Home will be a free download. There are custom options, upgrades, etc that will be available for a charge. Not currently available.

I hope you find this info helpful!
