  1. Just go shopping for the least expensive 5.1 system you can find and pick up a digital optical cable while your at it. $200.00 or less more than likely.

  2. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00097I...

I'm a tv salesman and I suggest the above.

When you get it, keep your ps3 set up as is, then get audio cables [optical, digital coax, or red/white rca] plug them into the AUDIO OUT on your tv and connect them to the system I suggested.

Done.  Now get ready to get blown away!

  3. A PS3 has a Blu Ray DVD player built in, so you don't need another DVD player. Blu Ray is the highest quality available now. If you play a Blu Ray DVD (i.e. Spiderman) on that player...and it is hooked to an HD TV, you will get an unbelievable picture. Blu Ray is output in 1080p. That means 1080 lines of resolution in progressive scan. A regularly TV broadcast only has about 350 lines of resolution, so it's about 3 times sharper than that.

As for surround sound, you will need an A/V receiver and 5.1 speakers to accomplish that. What you do is hook the PS3 to the receiver first, and then the receiver to the TV. The receiver decodes the sound, and sends it to the speakers. You would need to front speakers. One center speaker. Two rear speakers. And a sub woofer. The sub is the ".1" in the "5.1".

Some TVs and Stereos will simulate surround sound from 2 speakers, but it's not the same as real 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 Dolby or DTS surround.

    Hope that helps.
