PS3 Online but wired broadband?

I'm getting a PS3 this week, but I was wondering if I could go online even though my broadband is wired. I'm with Tesco Broadband (Yes, I'm a cheapskate!!) Also, does the connection speed matter? Thanks

Yes you can go online and a wired connection is more stable, secure, and faster. There's an Ethernet RJ45 plug on the backside of the machine. So all you need is an extra cable and a router if you want both the PS3 and computer online at the same time. If not you can just swap out which cable you have plugged into the modem. If you do that it's best to unplug the modem when you make the switch so that it can reset to the other connection. Like others have said, speed is good. My DSL tests out to almost 5.2mbps down and about 760kbps up.

you Can connect your PS3 wired or wireless. just get a router to share your connection. And yes connection speed matter, just like with everything else that uses the internet. A slow connect speed can mean lots of lag and not havent the ability to Host in some games

Yes, the PS3 can be used in either wired or wireless mode.

However, if you want to share the internet connection with your existing PC, you'll need to buy a router if you don't have one already, and if you don't already have a router, you may as well buy a wireless one as they're dirt cheap now.

As for the connection, the faster the better, though as long as it's 512kb or better you should be ok.

Yes you can get online with your PS3 using a wired broadband connection. In fact I've had both wired and wireless and for me wired worked best. Wireless connections can sometimes lose synch and when playing online games, you do not want that.

Connection speed is a huge deal when playing fast paced games online ! When you're playing an intense game, you need that information transmitting as quickly as possible to keep slow down to a minimum. 1.5MB is probably the lowest speed that you can use without lagging too much !
