Okay so my friend and I are going to another country for a week and he wants to bring his psp so he can use the Remote Play feature for his PS3. I have read other questions on here, and the say the maximum distance from the PS3 to the PSP is 100 feet, but others say anywhere that has an internet connection. Which is the right answer?

  1. BOTH.  You can Remote Play using the built in Wi-Fi on both the PSP and PS3, or you can connect over the internet.

Here is how to connect to the PS3 from the PSP Remote Play:

To connect using the built in Wi-Fi (with in 100 feet of the PS3), go to PSP "Remote Play", "Connect via Private Network", "PLAYSTATION(R)3".  It will then connect using the Wi-Fi connections on both the PSP and PS3.

To connect using the internet (from anywhere in the world), go to PSP "Remote Play", "Connect via Internet", "[New Connection]" (if you don't already have a wireless connection set up), "Scan", select the access point you want to use and set it up.  Once you have set up the access point it will save it, and you will be able to connect to the PS3 from the internet.  If you already have an access point set up, then after "Connect via Internet", select the access point you want to use to connect to.

Be aware that I have had problems connecting to my PS3 if my power has gone out at my house.  I would make sure you know how to connect to the PS3 using the internet before leaving just so you understand how it works, and know that there may be problems if the power goes out, even if it is for a second.

When you are with in 100 feet of the PS3, you can connect using the Private Network or the Internet.  When you're not near the PS3, the only way to connect is through the Internet.

  2. it should be the 100 feet, cause the ps3 needs to be on to have the internet connection, and that doesnt mean standby kinda on, that means green light waiting for you to do something on.

  3. You need to be at a place that has Wi-Fi. Most places that have Wi-Fi are fast-food restaurants. If you are going to a hotel and if they have Wi-Fi, you can access from there. The Remote Play feature is not like a cell phone distance. You need to be close to a Wi-Fi source, at least around from 50-100 feet.

And your PS3 must be connected to the internet at home.

  4. anywere that theres an internet connection just make sure that the ps3 is connected to a network

  5. With the PSP you have 2 different ways of using remote play. You can connect directly to the PS3 (only works if your around the PS3 like 100 feet) or you can use the internet to connect from any ware there is a WiFi connection (any ware in the world.)

You can use the PSP to turn on or off the PS3 even if you leave the PS3 in stand by mode.
