PS3 Surround Sound without optical?

Need some help? Setup my SS S using both my tv's HDMI ports. My SS S has only one HDMI port. One tv HDMI goes to the SS S, other to PS3. Components to cable box. Was able to get both TV sound and SS from both cable and DVD through SS S with a couple splitters for the component audio connectors. Would like to also get SS for the PS3. I do not have a receiver :( My SS box is without optical. My tv does have optical. Is there any way to do this without having to buy a costly receiver though I want to get one eventually. Where I have the HDMI going from the PS3 to the tv, could I use the standard PS3 port connector for this but only connecting the audio jacks to the SS S? Or is there a connector I can split the one HDMI port on my SS S to two as I wont be using both at the DVD and the PS3 at the same time? If so would the same splitter work to add a third HDMI port to my tv? if I split each to add one more HDMI port on the SS S and one on tv could i go 1 to 2 to 3 and get both A&V?

You can't get surround sound from PS3 without having a compatible receiver.
