Question:

PS3 and PC wi-fi connections with two seperate routers

I am currently using a wi-fi connection on my PC off my mums house over the road, but my PS3 wont pick up that far. So can i use a wireless router connected to my PC for my PS3 to connect to, and then connect to the internet through my mums over my wi-fi card???

So it would be... PS3 > Wireless Router > PC > Wi-Fi card > Mums Router

I already tried a setup but i lose my wi-fi internet as soon as i connect my wireless router to the PC??? Strange, i know! Is there some settings i need to change to enable me to use both PCI wi-fi card along side a wireless router but merely just as a gateway?

All help appreciated =D

  1. Wi-fi connections aren't intended to be used over that distance to prevent illegal usage of unprotected connections (I trust your mum uses WEP or some similar encryption to prevent others using her connection).

She'll need a better router, one with greater range. Not sure if you can connect a PS3 to a PC to do that. You might be able to connect the PS3 to the PC using the ethernet cable, then enable internet sharing on your PC, that's how I connected my 360 to the net before I got a router.

  2. It should work in theory. The problem you have is that you can only have one connection at a time. There is a setting in the BIOS that should solve that, but im not sure exactly what it will be called on your computer. I had a similar problem with my HP laptop, but I changed that setting and it worked. I could connect to the same router twice, once wirelessly, and the other using a cat5 cable!

You will also have to enable internet connection sharing for your pc, and your pc would have to be on while you used your ps3 online.

Alternativly, you could set your wireless router up as a repeater, so that for your ps3 and your pc, could connect to your router, and your router connects to your mums.
