I connected the ethernet cable from the PS3 to my broadband modem. I set everything to automatic, and it can't find my IP address. The PS3 booklet says I need a router as well. Is this true?

  1. I had the same issue, but was easily fixed.

First you have to understand, if your ISP is mainly for your computer and you unhook the ethernet from it and just plug it into the PS3, it won't work.

You have to unplug or turn off your modems power, hook the ethernet to the PS3, turn on the modem again, then try.

Your modem is configured to the computers address until you unplug it or turn it off, it resets then. You will also have to do it backwards from the PS3 to the computer, so the modem recognizes the IP of the comp again.
