PS3 fans call out Treyarch on shoddy ports – Video Games Update
It seems that Playstation 3 (PS3) gamers are sick and tired of getting the short end of the stick when it comes to Call of Duty (COD) games and have called out the developers for their favouritism.
It is no surprise that Call of Duty, a multiplatform first person shooter, is considered by many as being best on the Xbox 360. This is not because that Microsoft’s console get’s the downloadable content months before it comes out for the PC and the PS3.
The performance of the game on the Xbox 360 is also noticeably superior compared to its PS3 counterpart.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was pretty much broken on the PS3 and what’s worse is that Infinity Ward never patched it to improve the performance to bring it up to par with the Xbox 360 version. The multiplayer mode of the game was hacked quickly and the
developers took ages to get the hackers out.
According to LensofTruth.com, a site that compares performance of multiplatform games, Call of Duty: Black Ops performed much better on the Xbox 360 with an average of 56.61 frames per second (fps) with no screen tearing where as the PS3 version had an average
fps of 47.84 with 5 percent screen tearing. The performance of Call of Duty games on PS3 before Black Ops was even worse.
Gamers who were protesting on the official forums were shot down by David Vonderharr, the Design Director at Treyarch, who claimed the reason why the PS3 team didn’t post on the forums because of all the hate and negativity from the forum users.
David stated that the fanboys don’t listen to reason and give the COD community a bad name. When asked what steps were being taken to improve the COD experience on the PS3, David replied, “We haven’t talked about this on any platform. It’s not part of the
communication strategy. We haven’t even revealed MP yet, let alone get into this kind of detail.”
The thread quickly turned ugly as fans took offence to David’s comments forcing Treyarch forum administration to delete the thread. The irony is that even after all the bugs and issues found in the PS3 version of Black-Ops; it is still the highest selling
game on the console.
