I'm trying to plug a ps3 into an Onkyo reciever using an hdmi cable. The video is coming in just fine but there's no audio. The system is a hts5100(b). Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? btw, all of the cables are working and the composite audio is working fine too, just no hdmi audio.

  1. Check your PS3. You will need to go to settings for your audio and let it know you are wanting to use HDMI as your audio out

  2. Check to see if your HDMI cable is 28AWG.  If it is, you may want to try a 24AWG HDMI cable.

  3. Agree with going into the PS3 menu and selecting HDMI out for the audio (you need to adjsut both audio and video in the PS3 setup menu.

The other poster is correct also that some recievers also do not accept audio and just pass through video signals.  Some of the very cheap Pioneers do not pass audio.

If you have the Onkyo it should pass the audio though.

And poster Grover, you do know that there are rules about posting spam on this site don't you, nobody cares about how you sold all your personal information, got on a thousand mailing lists and had to jump through hoops or buy garbage to get a "free ps3" cause buddy that wasnt free.

  4. Your system doesn't support audio via HDMI, you have to use optical cable from PS3 to receiver to get surround sound and HDMI from PS3 to TV to get video.
