PS3 vs. wii, which is better?

I am an 11 year old boy. my grandparents told me they would buy me a new console. I can get a ps3 or a wii. (i don't want a 360 because it has no good games and high failure rate) What are the pros and cons of each system? and which is an overall better system. (i don't care about online multi-player)

well I have both, I prefer my ps3 but there are pro's and cons to both

ps3 has 30,60, or 80 gigs, I'm not sure how much wii has but it's a lot less.

ps3 is more powerful graphicly then wii

ps3 can play dvd's, and blue ray's

wii's are $250 ps3s are a lot more, but prices very because of diferent models

wii's are easier to understand

wii's are less likely to over heat (allthough x box 360 is the only one that over heats a lot)

you can buy classic games on the wii, where as it's only exclsizes for ps3.

wii's are smaller making them more portable

wii has some really fun games, like super mario galaxy, legend of zelda twilight princess, and mario kart wii, but ps3 has way more games, and the games they haveare usually better. pluss bio shock is porting to the ps3, resistance 2 is coming out, final fantasy 13,little big planet, metal gear solid 4, prince of persia, mirrors edge, fallout 3, in edition to amazing games that are allready out, like uncharted: drakes fortune, ratchet and clank future: tools of destruction, elder scrolls 4: oblivion, the origional resistance, etc.

I would say that ps3 beats out wii, but I like wii too. if money isn't a problem, I would say definately go for the ps3, but if you want to save money, go for the wii. oh and by the way, I agree with you, x box 360 sucks, they make you pay for online play when it's free on ps3, and it's just as good, they make there games on dvd discs where as ps3's make there games on blu ray discs, blue rays have like 7 gigs of memory where as dvds have like 5-10, and x box expects you to pay the same amount for a 360 game as a ps3 game, pluss 3 out of 10 360's experience the red ring of death.

I just read through all of the other answers, and i would like to correct some people.

first of all, a hard core game doesn't mean "some one who likes violent games" it means some one who is devoted to video games, that take a lot of skill and time, where as a casual gamer likes pick up and play things like party games and wii sports. and also, who ver said that wii has better graphics, your crazy. also wii does not just have kid games, it does have more kid games than other consoles but it isn't entirely kid games, and the ps3 does not just have shooters and sports games. there are pleanty of rpg's, andveture games, some good platformers, etc. also, the girl that said wii is better because it has motion sensors, ps3 has motion sensors as well, its just that it's not the focus of their advrtizing like the wii. like in the game heavenly sword, you shoot arrows, and guide them left and right/up and down by tilting your controller and aming at the screen. also, the wii does not have the largest selection of games! the xbox 360 has the largest selection, but thats only because it got a year head start over the wii and ps3. ps3 has as many good games as wii and 360.

Well, I would suggest the Wii if you are not a hardcore gamer.  If you are a hard core gamer, then you should get the PS3.  I would recommend the Wii because there are some games for the casual gamer, but there are also some violent ones like Resident Evil and Call of Duty.  More will come out too.  

The Wii is a whole new way of gaming and gets you moving, while the PS3 has you moving only your thumbs.  The Wii is more of a family console, and is really fun to play alone or with others.  Plus the Wii features Mario games, which are the best ones.  However, since you posted this under the Wii category, most of the people that answer this question will favor the Wii.

I'm sure you would love either one.

Ps3 is the best money can buy

1. The graphics and gameplay for any of its games are ECELLENT

2. It plays bluray discs, and seeing as high deinition is coming in fast, nows your time to get a player beforee prices skyrocket

3. Its has a vast online section for alot of games, and easy to navigate through

4. Its expensive, but seeing as you have a choice i wouldt say it was a problem, try getting a game and a consol

and girls will think your hardcore if you have the ps3 haha

Well I own all 3 and I love them all.So for 360 it actually has lots of good games like halo if u like those kinds of games or if your allowed to play them.And it really doesnt break down at all only for those unfortunate souls LOL.And ps3 doesnt have many games but has good graphics and stuff but its really worth it if u have a hi def tv like blu ray.The good games for the ps3 personally my favorites are ratchet and clank and metal gear solid 4.And the wii is the most recent one I got and the wii is pretty good becuase of the wiimote and miis.Most of the good games are mario games though brawl is good mario galaxy and mariokart wii.And the wii would be best for your age group so go for a wii.Ps3 and 360 are also very good consoles.Mario RULEZ!

overall i think that the PS3 could beat the Wii any day in hardware.  the Wii instead is based more on its controllers.  the Wii though can make games look good.  just look at Zelda: The

Twilight Princess.  the PS3 though is way tougher and can take anything    u throw at it.

going into the controllers the PS3 was totally redesigned. there is a new lightweight design, all new triggers, and wireless capability.  that's where problems start now... the PS3 controllers have no vibrating technology and there is nothing fun about that.  the controller is starting to control some of the Wii's power.  the "wiimote" as they call it is more like a pimped of TV controller.  it was pretty much built with a persons hand in mind.  with rechargeable battery packs with charge times of 15 to 20 minutes batteries are a thing of the past.  the good about the wiimote is that not only is it a pointer, but a sensing remote too, giving you the option to shake and twist the wiimote.  ill admit there are a lot of confusing addons like the nunchuk but Nintendo worked a really long time on this one and they should bee rewarded.  the wWiihas the best controller definitely.

overall the systems are very wqally matched and it will be a difficult disicion to choose.  but just to let u kno i chose the wii because of its online play...its not easy to get friend codes to people but it is fun to play online for free =)

It comes down to what you want to play. The PS3 mainly has shooters & sports games, however there's not much varietry outside of that. The Wii has a more broad game selection, so you'll have something to play if you're not into repetitive gun action or sports. However, the system does have those two gneres if that's what you're into.

I own both consoles and personally i'm always on my playstation 3. The wii isn't a bad console, its pretty good and super smash bros brawl is an amazing game as well. but if you're looking for something more hard-core with lots of FPS's and better online gameplay go for ps3

For your age probably the Wii.  But when you say that 360 has no good games you are wrong wrong wrong.  The 360 still has the best game line-up out of all three consoles.  These games may just be a little too mature for your liking.  PS3 will be the same but their game library is even smaller.

Wii is definitely better.  Just look at the statistics:

-The nintendo wii was almost impossible to get around the winter holidays because it was so popular

-The PS3 sales were so low that they had to lower the original price

Personally, I like the wii best because it is awesome how you can control games with movements rather than just buttons.  Instead of pressing buttons to weild a sword in a game like Pirates of the Caribbean, you get to wave the wii remote around like a sword!  I own a wii and I have no regrets!  You can connect your wii to your internet in order to access the Wii Shop Channel, where you can download all sorts of cool channels for your wii, some of which are free!

Get a wii!  You will be glad you did!
