Im going to be a Junior in the upcoming school year and I was wondering if I should take the PSAT or can I just start out with the regular SAT? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the PSAT's?

  1. if you do very well on the PSAT, you will be qualified for the national merit scholar competition, which both looks good to colleges and will give you a small scholarship if you place at or above a certain rank (i don't know the particulars though, google it or something)

if you don't feel that you will get at least 70's in all subjects though, you probably won't qualify.  yes, it is sort of nice to have a practice "real" test, but it is still not a real SAT.  ask your guidance counselor before making a decision though.
