Although currently in the Championnat National, Red Star is one club which does possess a history and boasts of a strong intent in future
The five-time Coupe de France winners, who were virtually relegated at the end of the 2003 campaign, have now set their sights to play in Ligue 2 by 2015. Gerard Valck, a diehard fan of the proud club, spoke of the persistent loyal following the club has
maintained during its highs and lows.
Last season was yet another poor start for the Red Star team but the subsequent turnaround of fortunes after Christmas says it all, that why the club has such a persistent following. The club not only had a turnaround of fortunes in the league but the club
was well on course to play against Marseille in Coupe de France too.
For quite a long period of time, the club has seen the emerging of wonderful footballers, nurturing their way out from the youth system of the club. Last year’s departure of Geoffrey Malfleury, their season's top goal scorer, who now plays for Le Havre,
and midfield sensation Farid Beziouen who plays for Sedan now, another Ligue 2 side.
The Paris based club has not been under the spotlight, primarily because the club is competing in the 3rd tier of the Ligue, but, the club has brought in atleast nine new faces to the squad, following the tracks of Ligue 1 favourites, PSG.
The recruitment has been done by bringing in very young players. It is pertinent to mention here, that the club has a history of producing bright players after who first start out for the youth teams. The summer signing of the more established Franck Queudrue
from RC Lens, is another proof of the credibility of the ambitious project the club has in mind.
The 33-year-old left-back, who has played for three premier league teams, and was playing his first match for the club in Green and White, in an exclusive interview with French Football Weekly, candidly spoke of his satisfaction at the 1-0 victory over Amiens,
the league outfit in Ligue 3 with the highest budget in hand.
The persistent threat from Amiens striker, Jonathan Kodjia, was dealt resolutely by the back four, in particular, the central defensive pairing of Samuel Allergo and Franck Queudrue. The team’s goalkeeper, Bobby Allain, was also an eminent feature in the
match, as the shot-stopper dealt with the deadly crosses from corners and free-kicks.
Despite, persistent threats from the Amiens side, the very rare attacks of the home-side were eye catching and it took for the home side just the start of a second half as Despois de Folleville who was thwarted by the Amien’s defence in the early minutes
of second half, was eventually able to fire the hosts ahead with a beautiful right-footed thunderous volley from 25-yards.
The Red Star assistant manager, who had also played for the club till last season, also talked about his enthusiasm for the helping the club he had his roots linked to and the pride he felt in playing his part at an outfit known for its vibrant history.
According to the assistant, PSG might well be looking to bolster their squad by making expensive signings, it is the philosophy of the club to train and develop young players that appeals the most to him. The president of the club believes there is a need
of another high profile club in the city. It now seems assured that Red Star will likely to be the key figure at Paris in years to come.
