France international, Kevin Gameiro, scored a stoppage time winner for Paris Saint-Germain as Carlo Ancelotti’s men raced to yet another victory in the Championnat at the expense of resilient Dijon FCO
The scene of enthusiastic players at Paris Saint-Germain says it all. Against Carlo Ancelotti’s men, Dijon FCO held their own and provided some stiff resistance.
The game was going for a draw as the fourth official indicated how much injury time would be added. However, there was another twist in the plot as Kevin Gameiro scored in the first minute of injury time to give Les Parisiens a win that would hand them yet
another win which keeps their title hopes alive.
In recent weeks, the former FC Lorient man has played second fiddle to Guillaume Hoarau who has been in a rich vein of goalscoring form that has seen him become an essential part of the side.
Hoarau’s performances have proven to be a big blow to Gameiro who has scored 11 goals in 26 Ligue 1 games in his first season at the club. Despite his tally being a decent one, Gameiro has often been criticised for his lengthy periods of silence. So, seeing
him scoring at the death, his teammates are very happy.
“Kevin said this, as did the whole group. This goal is a high point, the kind of moment for which we play football,” says Jeremy Menez.
“I thought Kevin had mishandled the ball, because the pitch was bad in that area. But, when he scored, it was not just joy. I also said, d**n, there are still two minutes,” quips a chirpy Salvatore Sirigu while talking to L’Equipe.
Carlo Ancelotti has been very patient with the striker and it’s hard for him to leave out the striker. However, the former AC Milan manager gave a practical analysis of Gameiro’s performance.
“I started Gameiro to use his speed in depth. I knew that in his mind, he was ready to score.”
Next week, Paris Saint-Germain travel to Normandy to face Stade Caen Malherbe and Ancelotti could consider giving Gameiro the nod ahead of Hoarau as the two strikers start competing for a place in the starting XI.
