PSV Eindhoven scrapped to a narrow 1-0 win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RKC-Waalwijk-c40370, when the two sides lock horns at Philips Stadion on Saturday, August 13. In spite of securing all three points, the Boeren head coach, Fred Rutten, was disappointed with his troops’ performances
in front of their home crowd against a newly promoted outfit.
PSV made a good start to the game and showed early aggression, and the aggressive intent paid off in the 24th minute through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dries-Mertens-c11679. Toivonen made an impressive run down the right side before crossing the ball to Mertens, whose left-footed
shot found the back of the net to give the home side a deserving lead.
Kevin Strootman had the chance to double their lead in the opening 45 minutes but the young midfielder failed to net the ball. At the half time whistle, the score-line read 1-0 in favour of the hosts.
The Boeren enjoyed majority of the ball possession in the second-half, but they clearly lacked the fire power in the final third of the pitch. The Eindhoven giants had many opportunities but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Strootman-c20775, Toivonen and Mertens all failed
to hit the target. RKC tried hard to score the equalizer but their strikers also failed to deliver. When the referee blew the final whistle, the Boeren escaped with a narrow 1-0 victory over the minnows.
Rutten believes that his men staged an entertaining brand of football in the first-half and admitted that his men performed poorly after the break.
“We put in a decent first-half performance, passing the ball around well. We put pressure on their defence, created a number of chances, and scored a goal. But we played low-tempo football after the break and were lucky to bag all three points in the end.
The team needs time to gel”, Rutten was quoted as saying to the media.
Ruud Brood, RKC manager, praised his side’s efforts against the Boeren and admitted that his troops could have pulled off shocker, but it was not the case by the end of the 90 minutes.
“We missed a gilt-edged chance to equalise shortly before final-time. I’m delighted the lads did well and our goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet in particular was outstanding. We could have pulled off a shock result tonight, but unfortunately we did not”, Brood said
while talking to the journalists in the post match press conference.
RKC will play their upcoming encounter against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/ADO-Den-Haag-c38221 at Kyocera Stadion on Sunday, August 21.
