PSV Eindhoven close to signing FC Utrecht’s Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman – Eredivisie news
Reports from Stadion Galgenwaard indicate that PSV Eindhoven are nearing an agreement with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Strootman-c20775. Reports in Dutch media suggest that both parties would be penning down a contract later today.
The Boeren had earlier tabled a bid to acquire the services of the duo, but the Utreg management turned down the 10 million Euros offer, demanding 16 million Euros for both of their stars.
Pundits suggested that PSV should set their sights on one of the Utreg midfielders but the Boeren were keen on making a double purchase. The PSV management came up with an improved bid of 13 million Euros for the double transfer earlier this week, and it
now seems likely that a deal would be materialised in the coming days.

Furthermore, the Boeren have also been looking to sign a defensive midfielder in the ongoing summer transfer market to strengthen their backline ahead of the upcoming season. PSV have reportedly set their sights on the 21-year-old midfielder who made his
debut in Dutch top flight only earlier this year. However, the youngster has proved that he could become one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe with his exceptional performances.
Foeke Booy, FC Utrecht technical director, believes that the deal would be finalised within 48 hours.
“There is no white smoke. We have a close contact with PSV and that continues. For both parties, it is important to clarify the situation quickly. For us, within the next 48 hours”, Booy said while talking to the journalists.
The transfer of the duo would definitely prove to be a great bargain for the club, as the Utreg acquired the services of the two players on bargain prices. Mertens arrived at Stadion Galgenwaard for 600,000 Euros two-year ago, while Strootman arrived in
Utrecht for just 850,000 Euros earlier this year.
