The team tactician was disappointed with his side’s performance last week at Stade Lille-Metropole, but his troops delivered an impeccable performance on the pitch last night. Rutten praised his players’ efforts who gave everything against an impressive
French outfit.
Rutten said, “It’s a morale-boosting victory, ahead of Sunday’s big game at home to Ajax. It was a great night for us. It was a thoroughly deserved win and no one can argue with the result or the performance. We felt confident and were determined to
get a good result”
“When we were a goal down, we continued to play attacking football. We created plenty of chances but could not convert them. We earned victory tonight and will meet an interesting team in the next round, but our team must give their all at each and
every game”, he concluded.
Lille’s manager, Rudi Garcia, was disappointed with his side’s departure from Europa League. Garcia believed that his side had a fair chance of winning the match and qualifying to the next round of Europe’s secondary football competition. It was an
open game for both sides, as the first leg ended in a 2 – 2 stalemate. However, much to Garcia’s disappointment, PSV outclassed his men in every department on the field.
The Dutch outfit will now face Scottish Premier League champions in Round of 16. The first leg will be played at Philips Stadion on March 10th. The Boeren’s will be hoping to achieve good results in the two-legged encounter and take a spot
