The Eindhoven giants sporting director insists Newcastle United target Erik Pieters and Belgian star http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dries-Mertens-c11679 will not leave the Eredivisie outfit in January.
PSV Eindhoven sporting director, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Erik-Pieters-c12766 and Dries Mertens, in the upcoming winter transfer market.
Pieters has remained a long term target for the English Premier League outfit, Newcastle United, while Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 have reportedly been linked with Mertens.
However, Brands has clearly indicated that his side is not looking to sell any players in the January transfer window.
“We are not looking to sell any players at all. We are in the race for the title. We are in second place with one game in the Eredivisie and one game in the Europa League to go. I don’t expect something to happen to our squad in January”, Brands was quoted
as saying to the media.
The Eindhoven giants have performed superbly thus far in the ongoing season. They are currently sitting second in the league table, four points behind the Eredivisie leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar.
Mertens, who has been one of the stars of this season following his move to PSV from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Utrecht-c39237 earlier this summer, is currently the top goal scorer in the league with 13 goals to his name already.
Despite reports in the media indicating that the Belgian ace would be leaving the Eindhoven giants in the upcoming winter transfer window, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 sporting director has ruled out the possibility of letting go of the top scorer.
“We don’t buy a player like Mertens to sell them after six months. Nothing is going to happen. There are a lot of rumours in the media but not one club has contacted us about Mertens”, Brands added.
Pieters, on the other hand, is expected to remain sidelined until January after fracturing his foot. Despite Newcastle taking keen interest in acquiring his signature, Brands has ruled out a move away from Philips Stadion.
“No, because, first thing, we won’t sell in the winter and, second thing, he is injured. We think he will be fit again in February and we look forward to him playing again for us”, Brands concluded.
With the PSV sporting director clearly indicating his side’s intentions, it seems like the English Premier League outfit will have to set their sight elsewhere to bring reinforcements.
