The Boeren technical director admitted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fred-c14136 Rutten’s dismissal decision was inevitable with diminishing hopes for silverware.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcel-c23507 Brands, has revealed that the decision to sack Fred Rutten was difficult, but it was inevitable in the aftermath of the club’s poor showings after the winter break.
Rutten, who took over the managerial hot seat at Philips Stadion in the summer of 2009, was dismissed from his managerial position after a string of poor results that has threatened the Eindhoven giants’ hopes of grabbing silverware at the end of the ongoing
campaign.
A 3-1 loss at the hands of struggling http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 and a 6-2 hammering at the hands of fellow Eredivisie
title rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede.
The Eindhoven giants are still sitting fourth in the league table, four points behind the table-toppers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar, despite successive defeats in the Dutch top flight. However, the margin of defeats was enough to provoke the club management to dismiss the
49-year-old tactician.
Brands has insisted that PSV, a good unit and despite being title favourites, derailed their season and Fred appeared to have no answers.
“I'm convinced we have a good squad, but unfortunately it has not achieved the results we hoped for. But since the winter break it has just gotten worse and worse”, the PSV technical director was quoted as saying to the media.
PSV managed to finish third in the league table in consecutive seasons under the leadership of Rutten.
“We looked at the performances after the winter, and if you look a little longer, you can see that for three consecutive years, the club has failed to perform in the second half of the season”, Brands added.
The technical director revealed that Rutten's dismissal was inevitable following the defeat against NAC on Sunday, March 11.
“After the defeat against FC Twente, it was obvious that he will find a solution. But we saw no sign of recovery and then we had to make a choice”, Brands concluded.
Reports from Philips Stadion confirm that Phillip Cocu will lead PSV Eindhoven until the end of the ongoing 2011/12 campaign.
