The former Malmo FF attacker could be set to leave the Eredivisie outfit before the next campaign kicks-off, as the Magpies have now joined Sunderland, Rubin Kazan, Lokomotiv Moscow and Fiorentina in the race for his signature.
Reports in Dutch and English media indicate that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ola-Toivonen-c28363, and would be tabling a bid in the coming weeks to acquire his services before the 2012/13 season
kicks-off.
The Swedish ace, who started his professional career at Degerfors in the 2005/06 season, arrived at Philips Stadion in the summer of 2009 after making 51 appearances for Malmo FF.
The highly-talented striker, who can also play in an advanced attacking midfield position, has thus far represented the Eindhoven giants in 76 Eredivisie matches, and managed to hit the back of the net 35 times.
Toivonen’s impressive showings upfront for the past couple of seasons have garnered him interest from several European clubs in the past, and now the Magpies have joined the race to acquire the 25-year-old’s signature this summer.
However, the Toon, who finished fifth on the English Premier League table in the 2011/12 season, will have to battle it out with other European clubs including Sunderland, Fiorentina, Rubin Kazan and Lokomotiv Moscow, in order
to secure his services before the new season commences.
In addition, if rumours are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur, Genoa and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 are also taking keen interest in signing the Swedish international this summer.
Toivonen earlier confessed that he wants to move away from Philips Stadion this summer for greener pastures, and urged the club management to sell him in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Swedish international has an ongoing contract at the Boeren that runs until the summer of 2014. However, with a long list of suitors ready to land the talented attacker’s signature this summer, it seems unlikely that the former
Degerfors striker will be donning the jersey of PSV in the 2012/13 campaign.
Reports indicate that an offer in the region of 10 million Euros would be enough to lure the Swede away from Philips Stadion.
