The PSV managing director has admitted that the decision to sack http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fred-c14136 Rutten is justified.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven have sacked Fred Rutten and appointed Phillip Cocu as their new head coach.
The Boeren managing director, Tiny Sanders, has revealed that he does not expect miracles from the new coach, but insisted that the club management expects PSV to perform at their best for the rest of the campaign.
Rutten was dismissed from the managerial position at Philips Stadion on Monday, March 12, following three successive defeats which severely dented his side's chances of winning the Eredivisie.
A 3-1 defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar, by four points.
Worse still, the 4-2 defeat against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 in the first-leg of UEFA Europa League round-of-16 has left the club with a mountain to climb in the return leg at Philips Stadion.
These defeats provoked the PSV management to dismiss Rutten from the managerial post though some of the players expressed their disappointment at the Dutch trainer’s departure.
“Although Rutten enjoyed the support of the majority of the players, it did not matter to the board. We decided we wanted to change the trainer to give a positive impulse for the short term with the longer-term objectives in mind”, Sanders was quoted as
saying to Voetbal International.
The PSV managing director then went on to insist that he does not expect miracles to happen. He added that the manangement expects better results in the remaining fixtures of the ongoing 2011/12 campaign in order to finish the season on a high note.
“In the remaining games we expect the maximum possible performance, but do not expect miracles. The return leg in the Europa League against Valencia will be extremely difficult and in the league we are no longer in control. But we have not taken this decision
because we have already given up”, Sanders concluded.
