PSV Eindhoven’s bid for Kevin Strootman and Dries Mertens turned down by FC Utrecht: Eredivisie news
PSV Eindhoven are looking to bring reinforcement in the ongoing summer transfer market and have set their sights on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dries-Mertens-c11679. The Boeren tabled a bid of 10 million Euros to acquire the services of the Utreg duo earlier
this week, but the club management turned down the Boeren’s offer.
Foeke Booy, the Utreg http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 director, reveals that the Eindhoven giants have to increase their offer if they want to lure Strootman and Mertens away from Stadion Galgenwaard.
“PSV are keen to sign both players. However, their offer is not high enough for us. Both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 and we are now considering our options, but we have told them to focus on only one of the two players”, Booy was quoted as saying to the media.
Strootman has attracted interest from a host of elite European clubs with his impressive performances at Stadion Galgenwaard since his arrival in January earlier this year. Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham FC, Liverpool FC and AS Roma all have remained heavily
linked with the defensive midfielder.
The Utreg starlet has an ongoing contract that keeps him at Stadion Galgenwaard until the summer of 2014. Reports suggest that Utrecht management has set a 9 million Euro price tag on their young midfielder.
Furthermore, the Boeren are in search of a winger after the departure of Balazs Dzsudzsak to Russian Premier League outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Anzhi-Makhachkala-c39068, earlier this month. It now seems that PSV have set their sights on Mertens as a replacement on the left flank.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play as a winger on either flank, arrived at Stadion Galgenwaard in the 2009/10 season. However, his performances have made him one of the key players in the Utreg squad. The Belgian International has an
ongoing contract with the outfit from Utrecht that runs until the summer of 2014. However, reports suggest that an offer in the region of 7 million Euros would be enough to lure the versatile midfielder away from his current side.
Owing much to the lack of financial resources, PSV have to stay content with just the one signing. According to pundits, PSV should sign Mertens in the ongoing summer transfer market to fill in the shoes of Dzsudzsak.
