The Eindhoven giants will battle against Ajax Amsterdam in Johan Cruyff Shield on Sunday, and the former Russian coach insists that every player is keen to kick-off the new season positively.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven head coach, d**k Advocaat, has insisted that every player is eager to start the new season positively.
The Boeren will battle against Ajax Amsterdam for Johan Cruyff Shield at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, August 5, before commencing the 2012/13 regular season against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RKC-Waalwijk-c40370 on August 11.
“We’re happy that we’re playing an official game again. The players are raring to go again. Their sharpness at the training pitch shows their desire to get started once more”, Advocaat said while talking to the media in a press conference at the KNVB offices
in Zeist.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 boss went on to reveal that the players have performed decently in the pre-season games, and has expressed confidence in his troops to perform even better in the regular season.
Moreover, the Dutchman has also stressed that the arrival of Mark van Bommel to Philips Stadion has boosted his side’s chances of winning silverware come the end of the 2012/13 campaign.
“The level is looking pretty good. Not much has changed at PSV. The biggest signing is obviously http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mark-van-Bommel-c24148, also with all his experience”, Advocaat added.
Although, the Eindhoven giants remained at the apex of the league table for majority of the 2011/12 season, they finished third following their poor showings in the final weeks of the campaign.
The 64-year-old has admitted that PSV were the favourites to be crowned Dutch champions, but has stressed that their poor showings against the ‘smaller teams’ coupled with Ajax’s supreme performances in the final weeks of the season saw them finish third
on the table.
PSV finished third on the league table last term, and the 64-year-old has insisted that the Eindhoven giants’ poor showings against relatively ‘smaller sides’ cost them the Eredivisie title.
“Relatively poor performances against the so-called ‘smaller teams’ cost PSV last term. PSV were the sky-high favourites to win the title in February, but then started losing games. If you want to challenge for top honours, you have to string together a
series of good results”, Advocaat concluded.
