PSV Eindhoven will lock horns against Achilles 29 in the second round of KNVB beker Cup at Sportpark De Heikant on Thursday, September 27.
The Boeren head coach, d**k Advocaat, has stressed that they will not underestimate the amateur club, and has urged his troops to put in their 100 percent to secure a comfortable victory.
“Achilles are hardly an amateur club: they would do well in the First Divsion of Dutch professional football. They were crowned amateur champions last season and play some good football. Games like these are invariably tough. We
cannot underestimate them by any means: Achilles have booked a place in the Round of 16 before”, Advocaat was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
The veteran Dutch trainer went on to reveal that his side is at the moment only aiming to progress through to the next phase of the competition.
“We have only one thing in mind: reach the next round of KNVB Beker”, Advocaat added.
Several amateur clubs surprisingly claimed victories against the Dutch second tier teams, and the 64-year-old tactician has warned his side to put in their 100 percent if they are to make progression to the next round of the Dutch
cup.
HVV Hollandia cruised to a hard fought 1-0 win over Fortuna Sittard, ADO ’20 claimed an impressive 4-1 victory against Almere City, and ONS Sneek fought hard to emerge victorious over SBV Excelsior on penalties after they remained
deadlocked 1-1 for 120 minutes on Tuesday, September 25.
“Just look at the amateur teams that pulled off KNVB Beker upsets over professional clubs on Tuesday”, Advocaat concluded.
