The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player has asserted that his side failed to deal with Frank de Boer’s men in midfield and at the end dropped three crucial points in the Eredivisie title race.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven head coach, Phillip Cocu, was disappointed with his side’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Ajax Amsterdam at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, March 25.
The former Barcelona player has insisted that his side failed to hold on to ball possession, as the Amsterdammers ripped his team apart with a dominant display in the midfield.
“I think we were well-organised, but continued to pressure our defence. When we won the ball back, we lost it too quickly. We just couldn’t get hold of the ball and our midfielders were unable to get a cross in to find an unmarked player. That's the biggest
cause for our loss”, Cocu was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
The Dutch trainer went on to praise the Amsterdammers’ brilliant performance and admitted that they deserved to secure all three points.
“I thought that Ajax were very aggressive. They started impressively. We were suddenly a goal down, when Aissati attempted to deliver a cross. We showed more initiative after the goal, but we should have done that earlier. We failed to create any chances
and Ajax deserved their 2-0 win”, Cocu concluded.
Both sides commenced proceedings in a tentative manner despite the energetic atmosphere at Amsterdam Arena. Although Ajax won three consecutive corners in the opening five minute, they never really managed to trouble the visiting side.
However, the home side did impressively well to enjoy a large share of ball possession in the opening half and they continued to do so after the half-time break.
The hosts eventually took the lead when Ismail Aissati’s attempted cross from the right found the top left corner of the net in the 56th minute.
Seven minutes later, Aissati was brought down by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Siem-de-Jong-c33482 coolly converted the resulting spot-kick to seal a 2-0 win for the Amsterdammers.
After bagging three points, Ajax occupy the second spot on the league table, a solitary point behind the table-toppers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar.
