PSV Eindhoven received a 4-2 thrashing at the hands of Valencia in the first-leg of UEFA Europa League round-of-16 clash at Mestalla Stadium on Thursday, March 8.

“We need to face the facts: we’ve been outplayed and had precious little to offer. Of course, we didn’t lack conviction but our opponents played high quality football. Valencia passed the ball quickly around and showed great efficiency. All in all, 4-2 is
a promising result”, Rutten was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
Los Che commenced proceedings brightly at home and took the lead in the 11th minute through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-Soldado-c31367 managed to hit the back of the net to double his side’s advantage.
After conceding two goals in quick succession, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 started to show some resistance. However, Soldado scored from the spot two minutes before the half-time break to make the score-line 3-0.
In the 56th minute, Pablo Piatti’s neat finish left PSV goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andreas-Isaksson-c5736, helpless between the sticks for the fourth time, as the home side continued to dominate proceedings.

Rutten admitted that Los Che are the favourites to make progression, but insisted that his side will try their best to achieve a good result at home in the return leg.
“Valencia are clearly favourites to go through to the quarter-finals. We scored two late goals tonight. When we were four goals down, we fortunately did not give up but kept fighting. We obviously suffered a deserved defeat but there’s still some hope left”,
Rutten concluded.
The two sides will lock horns in the return leg at Philips Stadion on March 15.
