  1. PTS one of the easiest exams on the Railway, you would be best going via an agency, or joining one of the firms that use people on the railway, the trouble is eachtime you shift company or grade you must sit the exam or retest again, it is not one sit and finish, even once you are qualified and stay in the same job you will, or should, be reassessed every quater and tested on a biannual rules examination.

  2. A good way of getting your PTS is going to one of the agencies close to you and seeing if they will put you through it they will pay for the training but you will be working for them if you were doing it on your own try one of the companies on the link below I think there is 3 in the London area and probably more.

  3. It would help if you specified what job it is you wanted to do that requires PTS.

For example, if you wanted to become a conducter/train(wo)man or driver, the course you take by the employer (the TOC) will include PTS right from the start.  Alternatively, since Network Rail now does much maintenance in-house, they should provide training.

PTS is not difficult, mainly basic safety procedures and common sense, and is usually tested every two years (biennially).

  4. the simplest way is to get a copy of Rail News and lokk in the training and jobs sections
