  1. I think you should get IAMS. Thats what I feed my dog and it works really good for her. And IAMS has food for all ages, like for puppies.

  2. I highly, highly, highly recommend you read about what the ingredients in dog food really are.   check out this website, compare these ingredients to what is in Purina: http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?...

You really should switch to an all natural brand. All natural foods are made with human grade meats, vitamins, no chemicals, no by products, no wheats and corns - which are bad for dogs.

I feed my dog Wellness Core which she loves, its really tasty and its also grain free making it even better.

Heres other natural brands to look for:

    Innova

    Merrick

    Canidae

    look here http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/brand...

Natural foods are the best for you pet. Its a shame grocery stores sell commercial c**p like Pedigree, Iams, Alpo....all with by-products, corn, wheat, bht, exothyquin..... all very bad - if you dont know what those ingredients really mean, educate yourself...most people dont know how bad the dog food they're giving their pet really is.,  Natural food is the only way to go.

check out those 2 sites and this one: http://www.thedachshundnetwork.com/prese...

  3. Spiders and maggots may or may not have something to do with the food itself.

But, Purina is basically a low-quality, c**p food.  Any food with corn, wheat or other low-quality grains in it, is an indication of poor quality.  Dogs can't digest corn and wheat- it's basically filler, goes in one end and out the other.  Many dogs have allergies to grains.

Also look for vague ingredients like "animal fat" "animal digest" and "meat by-products".  If it doesn't name the animal it came from (poultry, beef, pork, lamb, etc....) it could be from ANY animal source, including ROADKILL and DEAD DOGS & CATS from a shelter.

Good rule of thumb is, if you can buy it at the grocery store or wal mart, it's not a good food.  Even Petsmart sells Blue Buffalo, Avoderm and Nature's Choice....which are your top bets if Petsmart is the most convenient place to buy your dog food.

    Best bet, visit this site....

Read what it says about Purina (one star rating) and pick a dog food with a rating of 4-6 stars, whichever you can find near you and whichever fits your budget.  Higher quality foods are more expensive, but since they are more nutrient-dense, you feed a smaller quality and the bag lasts a lot longer.  Your dog will be healthier in the long run, too.

  4. I just asked a question a few days ago about what food is good, and my decision was to stick with Candiea All Life Stages. Its good for puppies and is a high quality food. I also learned that Purina is not great, if good in any way. Oh and keep your dog food in a sealed container.

  5. I wouldnt buy purina.  http://www.ultraholistic.com/puppy.shtml go to that website its nutro ultra you can find it at petsmart its the best food i have been giving it to my yorkie for a year and i love it. and now i just got another yorkie and he gets the same it is really good food

  6. Stop buying your dog food at the dollar store.

  7. I, too, have heard bad things about Purina.  It tends to be one of the better brands you can buy at the grocery store, but that isn't saying much.  You would be doing much better for your puppy if you bought from a pet store.  My puppy eats Nutro Natural Choice and seems to like it and does well on it.  My cats have been eating this brand for years and have never had health problems and always had beautiful silky coats, and not-very-smelly litter, which is always good!  So I figured the dog would benefit from the same brand.  Another brand I hear a lot of praise for and have seen at the pet store (but have not myself tried) is called Royal Canin.  Hope this helps!

  8. I am laughing I am sorry about that return it to the store go to the web site and tell them about it and You will get refund and no problem.where did You buy it? I am still LAUGHING I LOVE YOU I NEEDED A GOOD LAUGH TODAY.

  9. Call Purina and report it. Been using Purina for over 40 years and my favorite is beniful by purina. The people you bought it off got it wet so report it and belive me I know they will send you a rebate. They are a trusted company.

  10. You should check the expiry date... yes, dog food does have one.  Purina is a really good brand, don't listen to all the little teenies on here so say use vet brand food.  I feed my dog Purina One and she loves it.

  11. errr... well first go to the supermarket and make a complaint and bakers choice or iams is quite good or ask one of the staff at the store whats good

  12. Although Purina Puppy Chow is c**p, it more than likely has more to do with the way you are storing it. It should be stored in an air tight container where bugs and moisture can't get to it. If you want to look at the ratings of that and other foods, the link down below can help you.

  13. If your puppy's 3 months old, you can feed him adult dog food. I have a puppy that's three months old and he eats adult dog food and is really healthy.

  14. idk about purina but don't buy from iams they torture there lab animals

  15. Purina is c**p. Go to Petsmart and get a better brand. Ask an employee. It might cost more, but you will have a healthier dog and s/he won't have to eat as much to get his/her nutrients... = less food and less p**p!!!!!!!!

  16. Sounds like an old bag, or it may have had a rip in it that allowed bugs to get it.  Even without the bugs in it, Purina is not good food.

Wellness, Canidae, Evo, Orijen are good foods, to name a few.  Even if you went to a Petsmart or Petco--Blue Buffalo is a better food than anything you could buy in a grocery store or walmart.

add: just because someone's dog "loves" purina doesn't mean it's good for them.  My kids love ice cream and candy bars, but I don't let them eat that at every meal either.

  17. eww, make sure the bag is always closed, and buy from another brand.

when I saw this question I thought @ first it said puppy cow food lol...

  18. I use diamond brand dog food and I buy it at the local feed store. I get 100 lbs per month for my dogs and have never had any type of problem with this food. Diamond was one of the only brands of dog food that wasn't recalled in the last pet food scare. I also store the food in a jumbo size tin can with lid, so no pests or rodent problems. If you purchased the bag two weeks ago and still see spiders and maggots I might think they had come from a source closer to home than the pets'mart store. I believe your problem is due to poor storage anyway I really wouldn't worry as my dogs eat bugs all the time with no ill effects. They really like crickets the best but flys go fast too.

  19. I would throw that away and get Kibbles w/ the mini bones in it ~ also pour your dog food in an air tight container

  20. you should get benneful it healthy and they'll like it!!!

  21. Only feed your dog Nutro and Nutro MAX.  Either way, the first(primary) ingredient should be meat, and not corn or wheat c**p.

  22. That is nasty. You shouldn't store you dog food in the original bag though. There are pet food containers that you can purchase at Wal*Mart or Target, or obviously any pet supply store that will keep your pet's food fresh and maggot/spider free. I use it, and since it stores air-tight, the soft, moist food stays soft and moist. :) I suggest you purchase one.

  23. it is BADBADBADBAD you should ask for your money back dont ask for a new one get candiane http://www.canidae.com/ you can go to the store locater so you can find a store near you petsmart and petco dont carry the brand sadly =[ :( look at the reviews there are thousands

  24. I very well could be where you are storing the food and not the food at all. Purina is one the leading pet food companies in the world. If you really feel that it was a manufacturing issue and not a storage issue call purina and discuss it with them. They may at the very least send you coupons for free food.

  25. Apparently, you bought a very old bag of puppy food that had gone long past its expiration date.  Take it back to the store and get a refund.  If you buy another bag, of any kind of puppy food, be sure to check the expiration date.  Purina is not the best food on the market but it isn't the worst, either.  Don't change foods suddenly or you'll be cleaning up diarrhea soon.
