Pablo Abian advances into Men’s Singles quarter-final of 36th Yonex Polish International 2012
Spain’s in-form shuttler Pablo Abian stormed into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating Michael Lahnsteiner of Austria in the round-of-16 at 36th Yonex Polish International 2012, in Poland, on Friday, March 23.
The World Number 20 Abian, who has been placed at the top in Men’s Singles draw of Polish Open, lived up to expectations as he did not face any problem in pre-quarter-final contest against his Austrian opponent and won it easily.
Abian was impressive in the court as he did not commit any mistake and ended the fight in straight games by consuming just 36 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Lahnsteiner could not produce better form against his higher ranked Spanish opponent and lost the contest without taking even a single game.
Abian started his campaign against his Austrian rival in a dominating manner and did not face any trouble in setting up an early lead.
The top seed was moving in the court with great speed and managed to maintain pressure on his lower ranked opponent.
Until the one-minute break, Abian was moving ahead of his opponent by creating a difference of 11-7.
After the break, Lahnsteiner tried his best to level the score but failed as his higher ranked challenger was in complete control of the pace.
Abian continued his roller-coaster performance in the opening game and ended it with an impressive 21-15 score on the board.
In the second game, the top seed remained on track as he did not make any mistake in the initial stage and managed a reasonable lead.
Lahnsteiner was completely out of touch and failed to manipulate the loopholes of his opponent.
However, Abian was fully focused in the game and established an impressive lead of 11-6 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the Spanish showed no sign of dropping the pace of rallies and continued his power play. He did not let his opponent to get into commanding position in the entire concluding phase and won the set with a superb margin of 21-13.
Abian emerged as the winner of this round-of-16 contest in 36 minutes with a 21-15 and 21-13 score on the board.
