Pablo Abian overpowers Hsuan Yi Hsueh in Men’s Singles second round of German Open Grand Prix Gold
Spain’s top player Pablo Abian showed his elevated skills when he defeated Hsuan Yi Hsueh of Chinese Taipei in the Men’s Singles second round of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 at Mulheim, Germany, yesterday, on February 29.
Abian, who has been placed at number 22 in Men’s Singles world placements, played to his full potential and managed to chuck out his Taipei rival in three games by working hard for 59 minutes.
Hsuan Yi played remarkable badminton in the first game and won it with a convincing difference. However, he could not stretch his winning run and lost the remaining both games to his Spanish rival with a decent margin.
In the first set, both shuttlers showed their elevated skills and remained close until 7-7. At this stage, Hsuan Yi played well and scored four consecutive points to take a comfortable lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the interval, Abian tried to accelerate his speed but failed to stop the aggressive play of his opponent. He remained struggling in the first game and lost it with a margin of 15-21.
In the second game, both players again remained neck-to-neck by playing aggressive badminton. They controlled the pace of rallies and pushed each other everywhere in the court.
The score was 7-7 when Abian took over the control and reached at 11-8 until the break.
After the interval, the Spanish remained dominant as he did not drop his speed and injected more power in his strokes. He managed to level the match by winning this game with a wonderful score of 21-12.
In the deciding game, both men remained toe-to-toe until the score reached at 13-13. They entertained the local fans with their impressive play.
Abian proved his excellent skills at this stage as he became quicker and remained successful in winning this game with a narrow 21-19 score on the board.
The higher ranked Spanish won this thrilling fight in three sets with a margin of 15-21, 21-12 and 21-19.
In the Men’s Singles round-of-16, Abian will be up against the top seed Lin Dan of China.
