Pablo Abian thrashes Emil Holst to ease into Men’s Singles quarter-final at Spanish Open 2012
Spain’s Pablo Abian cheered his home fans by playing tremendous badminton and eased into Men’s Singles quarter-final after thrashing Denmark’s Emil Holst in round-of-16 match at Spanish Open 2012 in Spain, on Friday, May 18.
The World Number 23 Abian, who is seeded at the top in Men’s Singles main draw, put up superb show and managed to win the battle in straight games without showing even a slight mercy to his opponent.
The higher ranked Abian was on a completely different level and toppled his Danish opponent in two games while taking just 40 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Holst could not continue his winning run as he received a severe treatment from his higher ranked opponent and crashed out in pre-quarter-final battle without showing a strong resistance.
In the first game, Abian played with impressive precision and did not consume much time in setting up a remarkable lead on the board.
In the meanwhile, Holst played competitive badminton in opening points but failed to maintain his positive play which helped his rival to set up a good lead on the board until the one-minute break.
After the break, Abian continued playing with precision and he made his home fans happy by stretching his lead.
The top seeded Spanish remained on track against Holst and managed to win the opening set in a remarkable way by a margin of 21-16.
In the second set, Abian took over the control without wasting any time and remained in full control of the pace of rallies.
He was on a different level while competing against Holst and took a stunning lead on the board until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Holst geared up his speed but failed to live up to expectations as his opponent was too strong for him.
The top seeded local shuttler continued putting up tremendous show against his Danish rival and managed to win the second game with a striking margin of 21-12.
Abian emerged as the winner in this Men’s Singles round-of-16 battle with a convincing 21-16 and 21-12 score on the board.
