Pablo Andujar achieves victory over Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in the quarter-final – Mercedes Cup 2011
Espanola, Pablo Andujar, smashes the German home-boy, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe at the TC Weissenhof Court, Stuttgart, Germany. Pablo achieved a flawless victory of 6-2, 6-1 over his opponent in a quick 66 minutes of the game.
Cedrik serving first; had played an ace and had extremely poor precision with two double faults; it seemed as if the ball was magnetically drawn to the net. He was also unable to win any breakpoints and instead ended up giving
to breakpoints to his opponent. In short his overall performance in the set was disappointing as compared to his opponent who had won two out two breakpoints to his advantage, had excellently served winning a total of seventy four percent of his serve points
along with a fifty percent win in his total return points which amounted to sixty three percent win in his total set points and hence beating his opponent 6-2.
After taking a thrashing in the first set, one would have expected the 20-year-old German to save some dignity; however, that was not the case. Instead during the second set neither of the players threw an ace, and Cedrik’s precession
again faltered and he threw the ball twice onto the net. His first serve points (which were twenty five percent) and second serve points (twenty three percent) were below the par. Subsequently, his return game was worse than his serve with total return points
amounting to forty three percent and thus attaining a total of fourteen out of forty two. He was also not able to save any of the four breakpoints and won only one breakpoint advantage out of three. Whereas his opponent, Pablo had an excellent return game
winning a sixty seven percent of his total set points along with fifty seven total service points. Andujar at the age of 25 was running around the court like a bolt of lightning and managed to avail all his breakpoint advantages thus achieving a hundred percent,
giving him a competitive edge over his opponent and hence, battered his opponent black and blue winning the set 2-0
Across the board, Pablo had only two double faults, managed to save sixty seven percent of his breakpoints and won a hundred percent, he had an excellent serve and return game winning a total of sixty six percent of total service
points along with a total of sixty three percent of total return point and hence, achieving a total of sixty five percent which was twice as more as Stebe’s.
Pablo Andujar qualified into the semi-final where he will be facing Lukasz Kubot of Poland.
