Pablo Andujar ousts Gerard Granollers-Pujol in easy straights at Barcelona
Spanish tennis player Pablo Andujar undid compatriot and wild card Gerard Granollers-Pujol in straight sets at the 2011 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell just minutes ago, defeating his first round opponent with a bagel and a fry to
secure his position in the second round of the ATP World Tour Masters 500 event. The match ended after Pablo Andujar set up a 6-0, 6-1 winning score-line, and proceeded to end the wild card’s dreams of a good showing in less than sixty minutes of playing time.
This first round match between Andujar and Granollers-Pujol is the shortest match yet played at the 2011 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. Andujar annihilated his opponent in both sets, and refused to allow him any leeway in the first
one. Currently ranked just outside the ATP Top 50 at World Number 51, Andujar scored two aces in the first and committed no double faults while his opponent managed a single ace but negated it almost immediately with a double fault. The less-experienced player
had serious trouble during the match, and was broken three times out of four opportunities. He himself could not break Andujar even once. Pablo Andujar went on to win a mind-numbing 77 per cent of the total points in the set, and won the set without dropping
a single game. At this point, the score-line was 6-0 for Andujar.
The second set was more or less a repeat of the first one, as Andujar continued his slaughter of Granollers-Pujol with three aces. He remained unbroken throughout the match, and managed to convert two of four break points against
Granollers-Pujol in the second set. Although the wild card tried to make an effort, and managed to win one game, it did not benefit him much as Pablo Andujar won an impressive 61 per cent of the points in the second set to engineer a winning score-line of
6-0, 6-1 in less than an hour.
Pablo Andujar, who has won a single ATP career title so far, will be facing a tougher challenge in the second round as he takes on clay court expert and eight seed Nicolas Almagro.
