Pablo Andujar ousts Juan Ignacio Chela in opening round – Valencia Open 2011
Firing up with the first round of the Valencia Open 2011, Pablo Andujar, Spanish world No.46, went out to play against the Argentine world No.28, Juan Ignacio Chela, beating the higher ranked down in straight sets finishing of
the match with a bagel, 7-6(7)  in an hour and 24 minutes hard court match on Sunday, 30th of October.
Playing at Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, Valencia, Spain the two have had a 5 match history with Chela leading the head-to-head with three games to two. However, in the last two matches, Pablo has nearly ripped apart the veteran
in straight sets and is rapidly covering up the lead.
Nevertheless, with the two making their way onto the hard indoor circuit, Andujar won the toss and served first to open up the set and the match. Rolling down the scoreboard, the Spaniard took the lead and stood to return the Argentine
veteran.
Chela, however, went down stumbling. Unable to counter the Spaniard’s returns, the 32-year-old broke down on his opening serve losing 2 straight games, 0-2. Andujar kept on thrashing the higher ranked counterpart and served out
his 2nd serve to extend his lead to 3-0.
Up three games, the 25-year-old went magnificent as he broke the Argentine again in game 4 and served out game five to lead the set with 5 straight games, 5-0. Finally ending the first set, Andujar again broke his rival, third
breakpoint, and pocketed the first set with a bagel win.
Moving on with the second set, Chela replied back with equal strength. With the two levelling up winning their first serves, Pablo broke the higher ranked first in game four to lead 3-1, following with a serve out in game 5, 4-1.
Replying back with a serve-break-serve, Chela levelled up right away and stood to return again, 4-4.
With the two winning two games each next the set ended up in a tiebreaker with Andujar serving first. Equally matched, both players levelled up first at 1-1, 2-2, and 3-3 and on 4-4. However, the Spaniard struck once more breaking
the Argentine and taking away the tiebreaker, 9-7, the set, 7-6(7), and the fixture in straight easy sets.
Making his way into the second round of the ATP World Tour 500, Andujar awaits to face the winner of the match between the third seed, Gael Monfils, and Albert Montanes, to battle out the quarter-final seat of the Valencia Open
2011.
