Pablo Andujar ousts Julien Benneteau in the first round – German Tennis Championships 2011
On Tuesday continued the 1st round singles matches of the German Tennis Championships 2011. Out of the seven played on 19th July 2011, an easy win was achieved by the Spaniard Pablo Andujar against the French
world No.109, Julien Benneteau, in a 2 setter clay match at the Rothenbaum Tennis Court, the largest Court in Germany.
Pablo, 25 year-old, has been in excellent form lately. His qualification into the final round of the Mercedes Cup 2011 gave him a strong boost. Unfortunately he lost to his fellow countryman and former world No.1 Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Competing against the Spaniard was the struggling Frenchman Julien Benneteau. Turning pro in 2000, the 29-year-old has his best rankings in 2010 as the world No.32. The right hander had less advantage over the Spaniard as he was
playing the match on Spaniards clay.
The match started off with Julien serving first in the opener. The scores were level in game 2 as both players won on their serves. Pablo then hit a breakpoint of Julien’s serve, securing a 1 game lead. Extending his lead to 3-1
in the next game, the serve was switch to the Frenchman once again. The 29 year-old saved a breakpoint to close up the gap to 3-2. Unfortunately that was the last of his wins for the set. The Spaniard breached every wall in his way to secure a 1-0 lead winning
6-2 in the first set.
With 18 service points and 15 returners, Pablo scores 33 points in the first set and succeeded in winning two breakpoints while saving three of them.
The second set did not appear to be any different. The Frenchman once again opened up the score card and the second set following with the Spaniard covering the lead to 1-1. Julien managed to win another game to make the score
2-1 however, that was the last game for him in the match. The Spaniard conquered the clay and called it a day when he won five games in a row to secure an effortless 6-2, 6-2 win.
The two setter win over the Frenchman took Pablo Andujar into the second stage to play Fernando Verdasco, his fellow countryman and his team mate in the Mercedes Cup 2011.
