Pablo Andujar stomps over Flavio Cipolla to reach final – Grand Prix Hassan II 2012
Third seed, Pablo Andujar, stomped over the Italian veteran, Flavio Cipolla, in straight sets at the Grand Prix Hassan II 2012 on Saturday. He penned down a 6-3, 7-5 victory against the 28-year-old to secure a spot in the title-round at this outdoor clay
court event held in Casablanca, Morocco.
The 26-year-old displayed tremendous skills to outclass Cipolla in one hour and 54 minute. Encountering each other for the first time, Andujar not only took lead in the head-to-head series by 1-0 against the Italian but also booked a spot in the final showdown
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event.
Andujar thundered into the Complexe Al Amal and jumped to a 3-0 lead with a break of serve. Despite losing his serve in the seventh game, he capitalised on another break chance in the very next game and subsequently clinched the opener with a 6-3 score line.
Ranked 58th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Andujar kept momentum rolling into the following set and got the desiderated break in the opening game to take the initial lead. Despite losing his serve and exchanging another
break of serve, the Spaniard cashed in another break chance in the last game and sealed the set by winning seven games to five.
Andujar will square off against Albert Ramos to set-up an all Spaniard clash. Ramos amazingly fended off eight out of nine breakpoints he came across and cashed in both break chances to clobber a 6-3, 7-6(7) success against Russia’s Igor Andreev.
"It was a difficult and very close match today," said the seventh seeded Ramos in a courtside interview. "I had to run a lot and he was hitting the ball so hard. It is my first ATP World Tour Final. I'm very happy and excited about the match tomorrow."
The world number 52 produced a lower first serve share of 58 per cent as compared to the Russian’s 66 per cent and amazingly clicked 37 out of 52 points on it. He spilled more double faults but clinched the match with 79 points.
