Pablo Andujar topples Lukas Rosol to enter semis – Serbia Open 2012
Top seed, Pablo Andujar, outmuscled the Czech contender, Lukas Rosol, in straight sets at the Serbia Open 2012 on Friday. He formulated a 6-4, 6-3 victory against the world number 79 to book a place in the final four at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
World Tour 250 series event taking place in Belgrade, Serbia.
Andujar played top notch tennis to oust the 26-year-old Czech in their second meeting. After earning this success in one hour and 26 minutes, the Spaniard not only improved to a 2-0 lifetime in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against Rosol but also progressed
into the last four at this clay court event.
"He was serving better and playing faster and that meant that I had to be aware of those first two or three balls. I was more solid and returned good and that made the difference," the Spaniard was quoted after the match. "I’m very happy to be in the semi-finals.
I will try to play my game and I hope I’ll have the chances to win."
The Cuenca native made a sloppy start at the SRPC Milan Gale Muskatirovic and suffered the first blow in the second game to fall at 0-2. However, he made a quick counterattack and grasped his break back in the very next game. Andujar stayed focused after
that and not only swiped in remaining serves with conviction but also bagged the opener with a 6-4 win after breaking his rival’s serve again in the seventh game.
Ranked 38th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Andujar earned the coveted break in the third game and took a 3-1 lead. Later, he plucked remaining serves and cashed in another break chance in the last game to click the set with
a 6-3 success.
Summing up the Spaniard’s performance in this battle, Andujar jolted down an amazing first serve share of 72 per cent as compared to the Czech’s 51 per cent and availed 26 out of 39 points on it.
Next up for Andujar is the French rising star, Benoit Paire, who stunned third seeded Jarkko Nieminen, in a three set thriller to set-up this clash.
