Pablo Andujar vs Lukasz Kubot – Semi-final Preview: Mercedes cup 2011
Saturday the 16th of July-2011 will see the likes of Pablo Andujar, the Espanola against the Polish Lukasz Kubot at the TC Weissenhof Court, Stuttgart, Germany playing the semi-final match at the 2011 Mercedes Cup.
This is not the first time the two players are meeting; both the players have experienced the technique and style of one another. They battled each other once in 2009 prior to this event. The Polish has a 1-0 lead in their head-to-head
and has an upper hand on his opponent.
On July 13th 2009 the two took up the gauntlet for the first time on a classic clay court at Tennis Club Weissenhof Court, Stuttgart, Germany. Regardless of age Lukasz won the match dexterously 6-2, 6-4 and gained a
1-0 match lead against Pablo.
The High Power has made their paths cross again, giving the 25-year-old Espanola a chance to avenge his loss, a rather old proverb comes to the mind “revenge is a dish best served when cold”, Thus one would expect Andujar to avail
this opportunity and take his opponent by surprise and in order to that; he should have improved his game and style.
Standing at world number fifty five the Spaniard (Pablo Andujar) has played a total of seventy four matches at the professional level out of which he has won twenty nine and lost forty five. His year to date win-loss is fourteen
wins and fifteen matches lost. This year he achieved his career high ranking on the 25th of April 2011 which was forty eight. He played three Grand Slams but showed a very poor performance losing in the first round of two of them (Wimbledon and
Australian Open). However, at the French Open he won the first round against Santiago Geraldo 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-3 but lost the second round to the then world number one and currently world number two Rafael Nadal L 5-7,3-6,6-7(4).
The 29-year-old Lukasz Kubot stands at world number sixty nine and has played a total of 113 matches in his professional life out which he has won 51 and lost 62. Lukasz’s career high ranking was on the 12th of April
2010 when he was standing at world number forty one. This year he has played three Grand Slams and has had an experience of playing not only the world top ten players but also world top 30 players. His last run was Wimbledon where he won the first three rounds
but lost the fourth round to Feliciano Lopez L 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-7(7), 5-7, 5-7.  His most notable win was in Wimbledon against Gael Monfils in the third round where he won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. He also played Novak Djokovic (the world number one) at the ATP World
Tour Masters 1000 Rome, Italy where he lost in the second round 6-0, 6-3.
Although, the Higher Power has given yet another chance to Pablo to even the score many experts and analysts are of the view that Lukasz Kubot will take a 2-0 lead against the Spaniard as he has more experience down his belt and
has seen a great year. Nevertheless one really can’t say what might happen during the semi-finals at the Mercedes Cup.
