At the age of 37 years, four months and a few days, Jerome Leroy is in the final stages of his long career which started way back in 1994 when he made his debut for Paris Saint-Germain.
The attacking midfielder from Bethune, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RC-Lens-c40322 and Stade Rennais during a career of almost two decades.
In the summer of 2011, the midfielder was signed by newly-promoted Ligue 1 side Evian TG.
On Tuesday at Annecy, Leroy was the man who scored a goal against Olympique de Marseille in a defeat that puts his former club’s Champions League hopes at stake.
Despite his advancing years, the veteran midfielder is still an important player for Evian who have impressed everyone in their first top-flight season.
Against Marseille, Leroy produced a great performance and took fans back to the days when he was a 20-year-old prospect who had a lot to learn but had sheer determination that made him such a fan favourite.
At his age, it is surprising to see him play with the same determination that made him so likeable years ago. However, his teammates are not really surprised at what they have seen.
Thomas Kahlenberg, has seen a fair share of veterans impressing during his time at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 and says that Leroy’s experience is the key behind his performances.
It’s his style. He is capable of doing extraordinary things and he is malicious. This is a guy who actually feels the game and has great technical quality.”
Evian coach, Pablo Correa would be rubbing his hands in glee after seeing Leroy play with youngster’s exuberance.
“Jerome has done well lately. I changed the formation (to 4-2-3-1) and I thought it might embarrass them. Sometimes I have very bad ideas but this time it worked.”
At the age of 37, Leroy is nearing the end of a long career but his eagerness to retire as an in-form player is the reason why he has been around for so long.
