Pablo Galdon breezes past Bruno Semenzato into second round – BVA Open 2011 CH
Bruno Semenzato of Brazil was drawn with Argentine, Pablo Galdon, in the first round of the BVA Open Challenger tournament, contested in Brazil, on Tuesday October 25th. They had never played before and it was the first
time they were facing off each other. The contenders started off the match at slow pace but gradually the Argentinean picked up and carried on the momentum to clinch the victory in straight sets with a final score of 6-3, 6-2 in over an hour and eleven minutes.
Brazilian was already facing a real tough time at the court and was finding it really hard to make any sort of impact. He had lost five of his last nine encounters and was struggling to find his prime form. On the other hand his
opponent, Galdon, was calm at the court and really enjoying his time; he had lost just two of his last nine games and looked set to nail his opponent in this match as well.
First set started off in great fashion for the Argentine who scored two aces in his first serve game and broke his opponent’s serve twice in early games of the set to take a lead that was never covered by his opponent. He registered
a comparative first and second serve success rate of 59% and 58% respectively. He scored thirty-two points in the first set and pocketed the first set with a minute difference of just four points.
Semenzato tried his best but it was not his day and he faced a very tough competitor who was much better than him in all aspects of the game. He registered a respectable first and second serve success rate of 57% and 50% respectively
and even broke his opponent’s serve once but it was not good enough to steal a first set victory.
Second set was a carbon copy of the first set and even more disappointing for the home boy who could just only win two games. He registered an impressive first serve success rate of 60% but couldn’t followed it up with an exciting
second serve success rate and felt of what was required and only managed to turn 40% of his second serves to his favour; he couldn’t break his opponent’s serve even once. He scored an ace and clinched twenty-five points but these were not good enough for him.
Argentine was really dominating throughout the second set and smashed five aces across the court and converted two of the allotted four breakpoints in his favour. He won the set with a difference of seven points and marched into
the next round of the tournament.
Galdon faces-off against the winner of the match between the seventh seeded Rogerio Dutra Silva and Andres Molteni in the next round.
