Pablo Larrazábal enters the Lyoness Open with high hopes – Golf news
Pablo Larrazábal is hoping to keep his good form going into this week’s Lyoness Open powered by Greenfinity, in a bid to secure the third European Tour title victory of his career.
The tournament will be played at the prestigious Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, Austria, featuring some of the big guns on the European Tour.
In his last eight starts on the European Tour, Larrazábal has managed to record top-20 finishes in seven tournaments, including top-10 finishes at the Maybank Malaysian Open, Trophée Hassan II, Ballantine’s Championship and the Volvo China Open.
The Spaniard also participated in the last year’s edition of the tournament, finishing tied 10th on the leaderboard. It was one of his six top-10 finishes of the 2012 season.
He is now planning to make the best out of his experience at the Diamond Country Club, in order to end his two-year title drought on the European Tour, having recorded his last victory at the 2011 BMW International Open.
“This week is another chance to do well and get another good result,” he said. “I’ve been playing very well and hitting the ball very nicely, so I’m looking forward to keeping that going here in Austria.
“There have been lots of good results already this season and it’s very encouraging. It’s not frustrating. I try to play my best every week, and whether that means I’m fourth or 30th, I’m happy if I’ve played the best I can,” he added. “I played well here
last year and in the third round I had seven birdies in eight holes, so there are plenty of good memories.”
Bernd Wiesberger, the home favourite, is back in the field with an aim of successfully defending his title that he won last year. Other Austrian stars who will contend for home glory this week include the two-time European Tour winner Markus Briеr, Martin
Wiеgеle and young amateur Matthias Schwab.
Miguel Angel Jiménez of Spain, who recently made his 600th start on the European Tour start when he participated in the Nordea Masters, has also confirmed to participate in the €1,000,000 event.
