Pablo Sandoval gets over 5-million votes as he edges out David Wright from starting All-Star game
The San Francisco Giants’ Pablo Sandoval wins greater number of votes as he keeps a more deserving New York Mets’ third-baseman David Wright from making it to the All-Star day line-up. It is unfortunate that lobbying by Giants’ fan-base deprives an All-Star
day of excellence that Wright brings with his enigmatic presence on the plate.
By any stretch of imagination, Wright has performed way better than Sandoval in the season. From reaching the brink of making history by maintaining more than a .400 batting average to keeping a struggling offence of the Mets on the surface, Wright is proud
of the National League.
Unsurprisingly, the Mets’ manager is unhappy. Though he congratulates Sandoval for starting the day, he rightfully expressed displeasure over not getting Wright in the line-up.
Collins calls upon the need to please fans with his performance. By winning more games, some of the disgruntled fans can be excited from a hibernation they have chosen at the moment, he hinted.
“We’re disappointed that David didn’t get elected, but we send our congratulations to Pablo Sandoval,” Collins said. “You know, great fan base, great fan support. The baseball people saw it fit to put David onto this club, which he deserves to be. We’ve
just got to do a better job of making sure our fans want to come and see us. We’ve got to start winning more games, so we don’t have this happen.”
Similarly Wright uttered his disapproval of the system and the way it can go against some of the well-deserving players. However, he finds pleasure in the fact that at-least he is part of the Mid-Season Classic crew, albeit as a reserve player. Whenever
he gets the chance to help the National League on the day, he said, he will be putting up his best.
“That’s the way the system is,” Wright said.
Regardless of this, the Mets still have so much to be proud of.
They have their manager Collins acting as coach on the day. Their pitcher R.A. Dickey is in line of becoming a starter for the National League in the All-Star game.
Therefore, disappointment that has ensued after the selection of Sandoval will subside soon and the Mets will be fixating their eyes on a luminary of the mid-season classic.
